Greetings in the name of Jesus the Christ and welcome to the Herbst UMC blog page!

Sunday evening at 5:30, we will be hosting our 3rd annual Men's Worship Night!  This is an invitation to all men to join together in the worship of our Lord Jesus Christ through music, prayer and Word around a bonfire.  It is a beautiful and spiritual evening as the body of Christ comes together.
Following a 40 minute worship time, we will have food and fellowship until the fire goes out.  Please plan on taking some time to draw closer to God and connect with your brothers in Christ!

Here is the message from Sunday...

Speaking of outdoors, I have always had an issue with weeds that pop up in my yard.  I am not sure what it is, but I have the urge to go pull the invader from the ground at the moment I see it.  That weed has disrupted my yard.  It is robbing the grass of the nutrients it needs to grow strong and healthy.
Today, as I was pulling at the latest intruders to my yard, I couldn't help but think of the parallels to our lives.  Now, there are many different analogies that could be used here but I want to take this angle.  As a Christ follower, we are free to live a life of joy in the knowledge that our Lord is the living God.  We can approach each day with hope and optimism because God is on our side!
However we are all vulnerable to attacks from the enemy.  Just as weeds pop up in the yard, it is important that we pull the attacks from our heart and mind as soon as possible.  Attacks from the enemy can cause us to sin if they are left to themselves.
The best way to prevent weeds, or at the least be prepared for them, is to tend to your heart and mind just as you would tend to your yard.  Strengthening your pray life is guaranteed way to deal with weeds.  The time spent with God in prayer deepens our understanding of the very nature of God and the value he places on each of us.  As we spend more time in prayer we increase in our sensitivity to God's holiness and the world's sinfulness.  Our ability to recognize the attacks improves.
The other important thing to do is study the Bible.  The Bible is one way that God reveals himself to humanity.  The Bible is the instruction manual for life.  Regardless of what you are dealing with, the Bible can help to bring peace, provide hope and give direction to your heart and mind.  Allow God to speak to you through regular Bible study and be amazed at how strong you really can be with God on your side!
Prepare yourself for the weeds and go live a life of confident joy with your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
