UPDATE: HERBST UMC Covid19 response

Hello Brothers & Sisters in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

These are extraordinary times that we are living in and we are really still in the early phases of this health crisis here in the United States.  This situation will test our resolve, endurance and faith.  Many people will deal with the physical effects of this virus, and many more will face emotional and mental stress.  In these times, draw strength and courage from God!  Our heavenly Father's outstretched arms are ready to embrace us, protect us and comfort us.  Romans 5:8 reminds us of how much God loves us, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  While the circumstances around us keep changing, and are uncertain, seek out the rock of our salvation, Jesus Christ, who is steadfast and faithful in his love.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • SERVICES SUSPENDED:  Beginning this Sunday (3/22/2020), Herbst UMC will not be gathering for Sunday worship or Sunday School for the next 4 Sundays.  This is in-line with current government recommendations and the request of Bishop Trimble.  Please continue to follow best practices to keep yourselves safe during this health crisis.
  • HOLY WEEK SERVICES CANCELLED
  • HERBST UMC COMMUNITY EASTER EGG HUNT CANCELLED:  This April 4th event has been cancelled.  The missions team is looking into alternate ways to bring the joy and good news of Jesus to children in our community.
LOOKING FORWARD in HOPE
  • At home worship:  The church is a community of God's people.  The early church began in homes, in which people met daily for worship.  As Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:20, "For where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I among them." I will continue to post weekly, on this blog page, a sermon message.  Along with the message, there will be provided scripture readings and short prayer prompts to help guide your worship time.
  • Tithe:  "Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.  And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need." Malachi 3:10  God says trust me, and see what I will do.  You can mail your tithes to the church office (2561 S. 600 W. Marion IN 46953) or you can mail or drop off your tithes to Financial Secretary Belinda Walker (6503 W. 200 S. Swayzee, IN 46986)  As the Church, we will continue to support local missions and our community through prayer and generosity.
Bishop Trimble ends all of his letters with the phrase, Be Encouraged.  I want to echo that sentiment because our God is a mighty God.  We have reason to be encouraged because He is creator, redeemer and sustainer.  It is in Him who we place our faith and trust.  Let us in one voice say, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!" Philippians 4:4

With love and prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Pastor Jeremy
