There is a deep yearning in each person to have a purpose.  People will spend enormous amounts of time and money trying to define their purpose, search for affirmation of their purpose and chasing other people's purpose just to have one.  When it is all said and done, all any of us want is the answer to this question:  Do I matter?
If we look closely to the world around us we will find many ways in which people define purpose.  However, for every earthly way that we seek to find purpose, we will find examples of how those relationships, occupations or blogging trends fall short.  People who find purpose in their work can be devastated by being laid off or their business failing.  People may put their purpose in human relationships, only to feel completely abandoned if the relationship falls apart.
Only in God's perfect love can we find our true purpose.  God's unconditional love never fails and never abandons us.  Regardless of our failures, the Father is waiting with open arms to comfort us, support us and give us rest.  In that safe place the Holy Spirit will remind you of whose you really are, and to put your trust in the one who loves completely.  The God of all Creation breathes life into each one of us.  He has a plan for each of us.  In Jeremiah 29:11, God states very clearly that we have a purpose,

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Not only do we have a purpose, but we see that we matter to God.  He did not simply create us to abandon us to the world.  God loves us and has a plan that gives us hope! So instead of searching the internet on Sunday morning for the next self help video to define your life, open a bible or visit a church in your area to receive what God has designed especially for you!

Worship in the Spirit,
Pastor Jeremy
