Our culture has turned us into clowns.  Yes, I called us clowns.  Let me explain.

I can remember times growing up when my parents took me to the circus.  At some point in the show there were juggling clowns.  They started out small, with only a couple of bowling pins.  They skillfully tossed them into the air in a masterful and rhytamic pattern.  Then they would add something else into the mix, like a hoop.  They would keep adding more and more things to what they were juggling, even chainsaws!  I can only image the focus it must take to perform that routine.  Hours of practice, focus and determination before they are ever ready to show the world their talents.

In many ways we are like these clowns.  There are so many responsibilities, activities, and people in our lives that we can not hope to keep all of them up in the air.  We can only handle so many things and do them well.  When something goes wrong, and it surly will, we are stuck scrambling not to drop our delicate priorities while trying to deal with the new situation.  Even if we can find a way through, the reality is that the more things we have going on in our lives the less focus we can give to any one item.

The line of urgent and important becomes a blur in our list of priorities.  Now more than ever it is important to take a look at our priorities by examining our use of time.  Do our most important relationships get the time they deserve?  For so many people the answer unfortunately is no.

This week find time to sit quietly with God.  Place your entire focus on His will for your life.  Allow yourself to be in His presence free from distraction.  Put aside the things that have dominated your priority list and put God in His proper place in your life.  You will find that you can get all the important things done that you need and end up more refreshed in the process.

In Christ's love,
Pastor Jeremy
