A Night to Remember 4/9/2020

Greetings from Herbst UMC!

So  here we are.  It is another day of the week.  For  many people there is still work to be done and for others we are just trying to keep track of what day it is.  With so much of our normal routine altered in some way, it may just seem like any other day.  That couldn't be further from the truth.
For thousands of years, people have been celebrating the Passover meal on this day.  It has been a time to remember God's might acts of salvation for his people from the hands of the Egyptians.  This meal is a time to give thanks to God for his faithfulness and protection.  At this meal it is customary to retell the story of God's love.  I encourage you to take time to read Exodus 12: 1-28
This was the backdrop of the Last Supper.  Jesus and his disciples arrived in Jerusalem and gathered together in the upper room to share in this meal together.  As God saved his people in Egypt, so Jesus came to save all people.  God's story continues through Jesus Christ's willing sacrifice on the cross for the sins of all.  So tonight, as you gather for dinner, take a moment to read God's story of love for you.  Take a moment to teach your children why our faith is in Jesus.

As the apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth...
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”  For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.  1 Corinthians 11: 23-26

On this Holy Thursday, Maundy Thursday, know that you are loved.  Remember God’s faithfulness to his people Israel.  Remember His faithfulness to us.  Give thanks for God's unending love.  Give thanks to Jesus who paid the price for our sin, so that we might have salvation.  As you gather for your meal, Remember our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

This is a Night to Remember!
