Valentine's day is the holiday of love.  We associate the day with the giving of gifts, such as flowers, candy, jewelry, and cards, that express our affection for the people we love.  Often times couples will go out for a romantic dinner, or other special activities.  Yet this holiday can be a time of loneliness and heartache.
Every person is susceptible to feeling lonely.  There are times when we are physically alone, but some of the most difficult feelings come from our minds.  Sometimes we wrestle with guilt, telling ourselves that we are undeserving of love or could never be forgiven.  The shame we feel creates an isolation that is self-imposed.  The thought that no one will understand or that life is unfair creates a reality of loneliness.
That is why these past several weeks have been an important message series.  We need to remember that we are never truly alone.  God's presence is always with us and available to us.  His prevenient grace is calling us to himself, before we even are aware of our need for Him.  God's justifying grace is a reminder that in Jesus Christ we have forgiveness for sin.  Through God's sanctifying grace, the Holy Spirit is working to make us the holy beings God always intended us to be.  God's grace is a reminder of His perfect and holy love for us.
In times of loneliness, remember that God loves you so much that Jesus came to us, offering a personal relationship.  He came to bring us life in Him.  His joy can be our joy!  A reminder that we are never truly alone!

May God's blessing and peace be with you,
Pastor Jeremy
