"Oh send out thy light and thy truth; let them lead me, let them bring me to thy holy hill and to thy dwelling." ~Psalm 43:3

God's grace is ONE grace with many facets.  This verse from Psalm 43 is a wonderful example of God's prevenient grace.  This grace that "comes before" is extended into all creation with the purpose of guiding you and me into salvation.  God's love seeks to lead us into the right relationship with Him.  Even though we are undeserving of His favor because of our sin, God does not stop calling to our hearts to return to His loving embrace.  Like a good father, God wants the very best for us.  He desires us to be holy.
The only way we are made holy is through the blood of Jesus Christ.  This is God's loving act; Jesus' sacrifice for our sake.  God knows what we need, when we need it, and before we even know what we need.  Jesus creates the bridge for us to be made holy and to be free from the penalty of sin.  Only God's love provides grace for all people.
There is one part of this scripture verse that might mislead your understanding of prevenient grace.  The verse begins by the psalmist crying out for God to "send out they light...".  God's prevenient grace is in action before we understand our need for it and it precedes human action.  God's prevenient grace is what stirs within our hearts and prepares the way for our salvation.  So to be clear, we do not ask for God's prevenient grace.  It is because of His perfect love for us, that he is already at work.
Let us give thanks to God for the grace He shows us.

Praise God for His faithfulness,

Pastor Jeremy
