Welcome to the Herbst UMC blog!

We pray that you will be brought into a closer relationship with God today.  Please come join us for a time of fellowship at 10 am every Sunday morning with worship following at 10:20.  Here is the link to this Sunday's message...

"...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,.." Romans 3: 23-24

Maybe you have heard this verse before, or at least a paraphrasing of it.  The truth of the matter is that if God is God, then he is above and beyond anything that is in existence.  Therefore, nothing in this world can ever measure up to God.  We can never do enough to make up for our faults and failures, the short comings we know as sin.  So for many people, maybe you included, the questions sound like this, "what am I going to do?"; "how can I be saved?"; or "how can I hope to be in God's holy presence?"
Far to often we put responsibility of salvation on our own shoulders.  We fight against hopelessness and despair at the prospect of God's righteous judgement, because we know that fall short.
Lift your head and dry your tears.  Today is another Christmas morning.

Wait!?

 What?

That doesn't make sense, Christmas was a month and a half ago.
The Good News is that God has a gift for you, and me, and every person.  Just like Christmas, this gift is waiting for you to open it.  God's gift is free for you and me, we simply must be willing to humbly receive it.  That gift, is the gift of grace.  We don't deserve it, but God freely gives it to anyone who believes.  To those who receive this gift, God offers us salvation through the redemptive acts of Jesus Christ.  Nothing you have done precludes you from accepting this gift.

Give thanks and shouts of joy!  Yet while we are sinners, God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ makes us winners.  That is the best gift ever!

Pastor Jeremy
