Hello and welcome to you in the name of Jesus Christ!
This week we are beginning a short sermons series that is looking at some of the different parts of the journey in faith.  This week we look at making the choice from being a fan of Jesus to becoming a follower.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free... Galatians 5:1

Our lives are filled with choices.  For each set of choices in a persons life, the difficulty is uniquely measured for that individual.  One person may be able to get up early and start conquering the day. For another, that choice to get out of bed can be paralyzing.  It is good for all of us to remember that every person has unique struggles and challenges, and extending grace and compassion can go a long way in helping that person find hope.
No choice is more important, or significant, than the choice for Jesus.  Declaring Jesus as your Lord and Savior will completely change the course of your life.  It is by God' grace through faith in Jesus Christ that our sins are forgiven and our salvation is assured.  While our life here on earth will have its ups and downs, we can freely make the choice to stay in the love of Jesus.  In that love, we are truly free.
However, this choice is hard for some people.  The choice for Jesus may risk the comfort, routine, and life that they have built and are living.  The choice may seem to have too high a price in this world.  In the Gospel of Mark, chapter 10, a rich young man asks what he must do to inherit eternal life.  In this account, it says that Jesus felt genuine love for him, and gave him one final thing that he needed to do.  "Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.  Then come, follow me." (v21)  The man went away sad because he had many possessions.  His possessions on earth kept him from gaining possessions in heaven.
I want to encourage you to see past this and other stumbling blocks.  Seek a relationship with Jesus Christ today.  Everything in this world will pass away.  Only through Jesus can eternal life be yours.

If you have questions about Jesus or want to understand more about the choice, let me encourage you to join us for worship, Sunday mornings at 10:20.  Or, email us at herbstumc@gmail.com and we would be happy to help you on your journey in faith.

In Christ's love,
Pastor Jeremy
