Tough spots...

We have all been there.  You know what I am talking about, the tough spot.  It looks different during different stages of life, but it is always a formidable foe.  It taunts us and mocks us.  It tells us that we aren't smart enough or good enough to beat it, and unfortunately there is no spray bottle that will make it disappear.
Our life on earth was never promised to be easy.  In fact, because of sin, our life is guaranteed to be filled with these tough spots.  The question we have to ask ourselves is what are we going to do about.  These situation always have the upper hand.  They convince us that it is hopeless and we actually create excuses for why we shouldn't even try!  Tell me if this sounds familiar:  It's boring, it's too hard, I don't need to do it anyway, why does it matter.  Do I need to go on?
The truth about these situations however are found in the "instruction manual for life".  In Philippians 4:13, the apostle Paul writes, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."  He does not say it will be easy. Paul does not tells that he will summon his own strength and tough it out to victory.  Paul's confidence is in Jesus Christ.  We have a Savior in our Lord Jesus Christ.  We have someone to turn to and lean on.
So for our part?  We need to remember, in those tough spots we find ourselves in, that Jesus loves us and will see us through.  We need to remember we can still find joy in the most difficult task because God is on our side.  It is in that knowledge that we can remain centered on Christ as we tackle those tough spots.  We can find joy in the knowledge of what awaits us on the other side.
So remember, facing tough spots is not just trying a little harder or putting on a better attitude.  Those things happen as a byproduct of your relationship with Jesus Christ, who strengthens you.

Take heart and persevere.  God made you stronger than you think and he is there to fill in your needs.
