Happy Halloween is the common greeting meeting kids around the country as they knock on doors yelling trick or treat.  They begin the night by putting on their costumes, some had been planning them for weeks.  They get a bag or pale to put all the goodies into and they head out with parents, siblings and friends with the excitement of the glorious candy they will soon be enjoying.  I remember the home-made costumes that my mom helped me put together and it was so much fun to go around with friends.  The best part of the night was getting home and sorting through all the candy that was collected during the evenings festivities.

As kids, the greatest part of the of Halloween is the receiving.  They go to a house, knock on the door, make a request and open wide their bags to receive the gifts.  In many ways this is how we are to come to God in everything.  In Luke 11, Jesus says, "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened."

Regardless of our circumstances, God has always and will always be present.  We need to go to him with the same excitement and expectation that kids go with on Halloween.  God is waiting to pour into each of us not a piece of candy or two, but blessings that will overflow the largest bag we can imagine, and unlike candy, God's gifts come with eternal power.

   Blessings and Love,

Pastor Jeremy
