Self Control - Requiring Spiritual Discipline - 07/18/2021

This week we continue on our journey to understanding self control as a key step on the path toward spiritual maturity.

Just like an athlete practicing to run the best race possible, self control requires attention and conditioning.

Conditioning allows us to learn, maintain and to stay ready.  How do we stay ready with a practice of self control?

In addition to practicing the Means of Grace, we can also focus on these things:

1.  Worship - Bringing an attitude of the heart that is seeking and motivated by God's mercies.

2.  Bible Study - Spending time in the Word.  Seeking Wisdom and Understanding from Scripture.

3.  Rest - Not just sleeping.  Resting in Christ brings renewal to our Spirit.

4.  Getting Involved in God's Activities - Seeking to hear where He is calling us out of our comfort zone.

These things are most effective when done both in times of solitude and in times of togetherness.  God meets us where we are and provides for us the strength we need to build a practice of self control in our lives.
