The Virtue of Charity - 05/16/2021

Greetings in His Precious and Holy Name,

We continue on in our study of virtues this week. These virtues help guide us in our path to spiritual maturity and combat the sin nature of the world.

This week we talk about the virtue of charity.  We speak of charity as something voluntary.  It is generous and helpful toward the needy and suffering.  Charity is a way of sharing love.

The virtue of charity can be contrast with the sin of greed which is an intense and selfish desire for something.  It is seeking more and more.  People who give in to the sin of greed are seeking to fill their hearts with the things of the world.

God is love.  Making Him the center of our hearts allows us to share His Love through charity.  His Love in our heart changes the condition of our hearts to serving God.  God asks us to serve him by loving others...giving love to others....giving His love to others.  When we share His love with someone in need (physically, spiritually, emotionally, financially) we share Him and are guided by His love in our hearts.

Giving generously can only happen when we have God in our heart.  When we have Him in our heart we can share Him with others.  When we try and fill our hearts with things of this world through greed, our efforts in charity fall short.  The blessing of God is missed in those that are not giving with the Love of God in their hearts.

The good news is that Jesus came to die for our sin and in Him we can receive the Holy Spirit as our guide to show us the way toward a life of charity.

The author of Hebrews tells the people "Do not neglect to do good and share what you have for such sacrifices are pleasing to God" (Hebrews 13:16)

Sharing our time, talent and treasure...these things given to us by God...this is His call to us.

Believe Him.  Receive Him.  Share Him.
