From Milk to Solid Food - 02/21/2021

Greetings in His Holy Name,

Today we kick off a series of messages that will take us through the Lenten Season.   This series is a result of collaborative effort based on a God inspired idea received by Pastor Matt Stewart of Sweetser Wesleyan Church.  While content of each pastor's message will differ slightly, the core principals remain consistent and grounded in scripture.

In today's message, we discuss the maturity of faith that must happen as we grow into God's Will for our lives lived in Christ.  When we accept Christ in our lives, we are given new birth, we are born again.  While we are new in faith, we can only digest "milk".  The smooth essential love and grace that God gives us as we accept His Son as our Savior.

While this "milk" is good for us, we can't live only on it forever.  We need to grow and mature into eating solid food.  This is an expectation of our faith.  Maturity.  Intentional Maturity.  We must seek to grow our faith and increase our knowledge, understanding and wisdom of God.  As a child seeks to "eat at the big kids table", we know we need to mature and grow in our faith.  We want to mature and grow.  We often get overwhelmed at the thought of digesting more and do not take the steps needed to allow this solid food to be digested into energy to fuel our lives lived for Him.

The good news is that there are many opportunities and steps to take toward this maturity as we intentionally and consistently practice the Means of Grace in our daily living.  As a reminder, these are:  Prayer, Reading Scripture, Celebrating The Lord's Supper, Participating in small group Christian Conferencing and Fasting.

These essential parts of our faith can help bring us toward maturity. They help us have "powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil" (Hebrews 5:14).  We are strengthened to build His Kingdom here and to teach others the essentials of a life lived in Christ.

Are you drinking only milk?  Do you need some solid food?  My prayer for you this week is that you will step out in faith and seek God where He waits for you.  Intentionally seek to grow your faith as you move from milk to solid food.
