The Compromising Church 8/23/2020

 Welcome to Herbst UMC!  May this day be the day that you say yes to Jesus!

    Today's message focuses on the letter to the church in Pergamum.  This church, which Jesus commended for their faithfulness, existed in a community that was known for worshiping Caesar as a God and was known as "the city of temples".  Jesus understood how difficult a place this was to remain faithful.  Like the church in Pergamum, Jesus knows the challenges we face today amidst the current popular culture.  We can take some comfort in the knowledge that Jesus understands and is excited to help us through these tough times.

    Yet Jesus had a few things against Pergamum.  This church is know as the compromising church because many people in the church accommodated local practices and customs that were contrary to Jesus' teachings.  Allow God to search your heart for compromises that you have made.  He is helping us to see the mistake and giving the opportunity to repent.  

    The Revelation of Jesus Christ is for our benefit, so that our relationship with Him can grow.  For in Christ alone we strive for Christian perfection and receive salvation!
