Proper perspective

I am reminded while studying Scripture how many things in our life/world today get between us and our Heavenly Father.  The distractions of this world are all over.  Sin is our biggest threat.  The message of chasing after our desires and being the owners of truth are lies of the enemy that cause the fall of many people.  However, there are any number of less obvious things that keep us from God.  Our schedules, phone, internet, children, family, other peoples urgent needs, or entertainment, etc are all things that in and of themselves are not bad, but they can cause us to take our eyes off of Jesus.  Good things can become idols if we are not careful.
Therefore, it is important as Christ followers that we keep our eyes on Jesus.  "...looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith,.." Hebrews 12:2  We can do this through regular prayer, study and meditation.  The benefit of taking time to be still with God can not be overlooked.  This is not wasting time, rather it is focused concentration on our Holy God, our Lord and Heavenly Father.   We need time to be still for our physical, mental and spiritual health.
When our eyes are on Jesus first, those good things that would otherwise be distractions can be blessings because we are able to love with a love that comes from Jesus.  The noise of the world comes into focus as we lean into Jesus.

Take time today, and every day, to be still with God.  It might just save your life.

Pastor Jeremy
