Imitating

I think it is safe to say that all people who walk this earth have faced difficulty or opposition at some point in their life.  We have all had goals that were challenging to achieve, and in some case we still haven't got them done.  Some times the obstacles are the same as before and sometimes the obstacles seem different every time.  At every moment when we face adversity there is a decision to be made.  Do I continue on this path or not?
Persistence is defined as "firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition."  I like the word obstinate.  We are probably more familiar with it in terms of a child not doing what we have asked.  We might hear the word and think stubborn.  Yes! You should!  Persistence is being stubborn; not giving up.  Persistence is continuing on, regardless of circumstance, toward the goal or desired outcome.
Jesus is persistent.  The entire Gospel is a story of persistence.  Jesus continuing to teach the people despite their lack of understanding, their rejection, or their threats.  Jesus was stubborn in the sense that we was not going to give up.  He had a goal and he was going to see it through.
How does He do it?  Love, prayer and persistence!  He loves us so much that he will never stop fighting for us.  Jesus will continue to call out to all people; gathering them to himself.  While he walked the earth, Jesus spent so much time in prayer so he would have the strength, guidance and endurance to finish His mission.  He persists still today with an unwavering love for you.
Let us give thanks this week for the love of Jesus.  Open your hearts and accept that love that Jesus wants to pour out to you.  Continue to spend time in prayer with God so that you to can be persistent in all that He calls you to do.

In the persistent love of Jesus,
Pastor Jeremy
