Hustle and Bustle lacking Muscle (Heart)

The holiday times can be so difficult.  There is so much to do, and seemly never enough time.  Stress and worry amplify chaotic schedules and to-do lists.  Relationships can become strained as the pressure to remember all the details and get everything right creep into our lives.  It begs the question, "Is it all worth it?"

Some Christians have stopped celebrating Christmas because it has become commercialized and secularized in our society.  Some take the opinion that the holiday times is merely about greed and others will site a lack of Scriptural evidences to support the celebrating of Christmas.   No where in the bible is the command to celebrate Christ's birth, like Jesus' command to celebrate Communion.  In fact, many of the Christmas 'traditions' we have today, come from pagan traditions, such as decorating evergreen or fir trees.  In consideration of these facts and opinions, the question remains, "Is it all worth it?

My answer is yes.

Advent season, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are a good and holy thing to celebrate, providing that our heart has the proper focus.  We should at all times be living a life that honors the amazing sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  Remember, it was a sacrifice to be born into this world!  I have had many spiritual moments during the Advent season over the years because I have made my relationship with Jesus the center of all my activities.  The entire reason for celebrating anything is to remind ourselves of that person or event's significance in our lives and culture.  Nothing in this world deserves our attention, adoration, humility, wonder, joy and love, than Jesus.

So during the hustle and bustle, I urge you to take time, examine your holiday routines, examine your heart, and pray.  Make sure everything you do points to the one who is deserving of all your praise.  You might be surprised by the impact on your relationship with God.  Anytime we can grow and deepen our relationship with God, through our Savior Jesus Christ, is worth it!

In the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace,

Pastor Jeremy
