The Virtue of Gratitude - 04/18/2021

 Greetings in His Holy Name,

This week we begin several weeks focusing on virtues of faith as we seek spiritual maturity.  The key scripture guiding these next several months of messages is 2 Peter 1: 5-7.

As we study virtues, we can contrast them to the sin in the world.  We first focus on the virtue of gratitude and come to understand that it can be a spiritual weapon used in the face of the envy in our lives.  We are not immune to the sin of envy.  Often rooted in comparison, envy takes our focus off of Jesus and turns our heart to focus on that which we do not have.

Gratitude is active.  Gratitude is expressed as thankfulness.  Thankfulness for God's nature and His gifts to us.  We will discover God's nature and His gifts by studying scripture (a means of grace).

Gratitude can also lead us to share kindness, A Fruit of The Holy Spirit.  Gratitude is the quality of being thankful and being ready to show appreciation for and returning kindness.

We must choose to battle the sinful nature of envy with gratitude.  We can express thankfulness in worship, sharing the Gospel and serving others.

Through these expressions, God's power in our lives can be seen by others.

As a homework assignment, read Psalm 103 with your morning devotions this week.  Give thanks and receive His love.

Be thankful and live a life of gratitude!
