December 1, 2019 Choosing a Journey of Peace

One of the most important things that a Christian is called to do is worship. Really! Worship is the single most important thing we can do each day. Worship allows us to express our love, praise and thanksgiving to God for who he is and all he is doing in our life and the world around us. It is a means of grace that helps to center our hearts on God's kingdom, which is a kingdom of peace.
Why is this so important?
As we walk in this world, every action we take and each word that falls from our lips is a potential witness to what the kingdom of God is like. We are to be a light in the world, that points people to God and his glory. If our hearts are not at peace, our words and actions could undermine someones experience with the body of Christ.
It might be hard to admit, but the church is its own worst enemy when it comes to advertising. To often we allow our personal feelings and righteousness to guide our thoughts and actions. Our thoughtless, harsh, or crass, words, our need to be right, our need for power and our need for human recognition too often drives our reactions. These missteps give "young" Christians an excuse to not want to be around quarrelsome and grumpy church members.
Let us remember that the Kingdom of God is a kingdom of Peace. We have the ability to live that way here on earth. Seek to repent your sins. Go to those that you may have offended and seek to reconcile your differences. These humble steps can go a long way to repairing damaged relationships and forge new friendships that are anchored in God's love. Of course we make mistakes; our hope, by the grace of God, is to limit those mistakes.
Take time each day to bring your worship to God. Allow God to transform your heart to a heart of peace.
